Regular Season Round 18: Pielagos - Burgos 65-77

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Pielagos (6-9) lost to eleventh ranked Burgos (6-9) in Renedo de Pielagos 65-77 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Burgos. Pielagos was better in second period 26-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Burgos forced 25 Pielagos turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. Pielagos was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Jalen Jaspers (190-92, college: Mary) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import center Julien Sargent (211-91, college: Mobile, AL) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Burgos players scored in double figures. Guard David Garcia (192-80) replied with 14 points and Senegalese center Abdoulaye Seck (205-92) added 12 points in the effort for Pielagos. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Burgos moved-up to ninth place in Group A-A, which they share with Pielagos and Mondragon. Burgos will face league's second-placed Easo in San Sebastian in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
