Regular Season Round 19: Valdiceppo - Taranto 89-70

There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked Valdiceppo (4-14) outplayed 12th ranked Taranto (5-12) in Perugia 89-70 on Sunday. Valdiceppo dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Taranto's 20. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Taranto was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for point guard Edoardo Casuscelli (180-89) who helped to win the game recording 19 points. Naturalized Czech guard Filippo Meccoli Matejca (194-92) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Valdiceppo's coach Paolo Pierotti used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Swingman Matteo Fioravanti (194-97) answered with 11 points and 8 rebounds and forward Alessandro Azzaro (197-93) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Taranto. Four Valdiceppo and five Taranto players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Valdiceppo maintains fourteenth place in B with 4-14 record. Loser Taranto dropped to the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Valdiceppo will face higher ranked Matera (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
