Regular Season Round 17: Jarvenpaa - Lahti 78-88

Leader Lahti delivered the seventeenth victory on Sunday night. This time they beat 8th ranked Jarvenpaa (7-13) 88-78. The game was mostly controlled by Lahti. Jarvenpaa was better in fourth quarter 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lahti dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Jarvenpaa's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Rashad Smith (201-93, college: Tulsa, agency: Diamond Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Jerald Fields (201-82, college: E.Tenn.St.) chipped in 15 points. Four Lahti players scored in double figures. Lahti's coach Arttu Mannelin used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Cameroonian forward Arsene Towa (191-81) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Leo Tarjanne (189-95) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Lahti maintains first place in Division with 17-4 record. Loser Jarvenpaa keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. Lahti will face Oulun NMKY (#4) at home in the next round. Jarvenpaa will play against Porvoon Tarmo (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
