Regular Season Round 26: Al Khor - Al Gharafa 70-83

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Al Gharafa (14-1) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Al Khor (2-12) 83-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Al Gharafa. Al Khor was better in second period 22-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds. Swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Point guard Dairese Gary (185-88, college: N.Mexico) produced 37 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 6 assists and Rickey Young (205-90, college: W.Virginia Tech) added 17 points and 16 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Al Gharafa have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-1 record having just one point less than leader El Jaysh. Loser Al Khor stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Qatar Sports Club.
