Regular Season Round 11: Mayrouba - Al Riyadi 64-77

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Al Riyadi (8-3) defeated on the road 9th ranked Mayrouba (3-8) 77-64 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 42-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Mayrouba's 36. They outrebounded Mayrouba 50-32 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (210-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Three Eye Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. The former international point guard Wael Arakji (194-94) helped adding 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. Venezuelan point guard Calvin Cage (183-84, college: Buffalo) responded with 25 points and 6 assists and American center Robert Upshaw (213-94, college: Washington) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Mayrouba's coach Elie Nasr rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Al Riyadi. Defending champion maintains third place with 8-3 record having just two points less than leader Homenetmen. Mayrouba lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Champville. Al Riyadi will meet at home Louaize (#4) in the next round. Mayrouba will play against the league's second-placed Byblos (#2) and hope to secure a win.
