Date: February 5, 2017
Bottom-ranked Ciego (0-4) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to sixth ranked Santiago (2-2) 96-90. Ciego was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by the former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) who scored that evening 32 points and 8 rebounds and guard Roigelis Ochoa (190-93) supported him with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Even 24 points and 6 rebounds by guard Alfredo Hernandez (192-85) did not help to save the game for Ciego. Guard Dainier Martinez (184-96) added 19 points and 6 assists for lost side. Four Santiago and five Ciego players scored in double figures. Ciego's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santiago moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Camaguey. Defending champion Ciego still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Guantanamo. Santiago will play against Capitalinos (#6) in La Habana in the next round. Ciego will play at home against Guantanamo and hopes to get finally their first victory.
