Regular Season Round 13: Panionios - Proteas 82-77

We should mention about the upset which took place in Athens, where 4th placed Proteas (7-5) lost to ninth ranked Panionios (5-8) in a road game 77-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Proteas. Panionios made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Proteas 42-22 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Proteas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and guard Alexia Botsari (178-83) accounted for 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Panionios' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international guard Angeliki Nikolopoulou (178-91) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 assists and the former international forward Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi (185-92, college: FGCU) added 26 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for Proteas in the defeat. Newly promoted Panionios maintains ninth place with 5-8 record. Proteas at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Athinaikos.
