Regular Season Round 12: DCU Mercy - Brunell 68-41
Date: February 5, 2017
There was no surprise in Dublin where 8th ranked Brunell (2-8) was crushed by fifth ranked DCU Mercy (6-4) 68-41 on Sunday. DCU Mercy dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Brunell's 24. They outrebounded Brunell 40-23 including 30 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DCU Mercy made 20 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Aishling Sullivan (175-88) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Sarah Woods (174-88) who added 21 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Canadian power forward Kaylee Kilpatrick (193-93, college: New Hampshire) with 18 points and 5 rebounds and international power forward Amy Waters (180-95) scored 5 points and 12 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. DCU Mercy moved-up to third place, which they share with Killester and WIT Wildcats. Brunell at the other side keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. DCU Mercy will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brunell will play against NUIG Mystics (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
