Regular Season Round 11: Moutahed - Hoops 89-76

There was no surprise in Tripoli where 10th ranked Hoops Club (1-10) was defeated by sixth ranked Al Moutahed (6-5) 89-76 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Al Moutahed. Hoops Club managed to win third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hoops Club 49-23 including a 23-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Moutahed looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Cleveland Melvin (203-91, college: De Paul) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 21 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Dewarick Spencer (192-82, college: Arkansas St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) helped adding 21 points and 6 assists. Four Al Moutahed players scored in double figures. Al Moutahed's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Omar Thomas (196-82, college: UTEP) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and international point guard Ali Mezher (182-94) scored 22 points. Al Moutahed moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Louaize. Loser Hoops Club stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Al Moutahed will meet league's leader Homenetmen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hoops Club's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Sagesse.
