Second Stage Round 5: Chanson V-M - Denso Iris 42-74

Bottom-ranked Chanson V-M (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 74-42 loss to fifth ranked Denso Iris (2-3) in Shizuoka on Tuesday evening. The game without a history. Denso Iris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Chanson V-M's 36. Denso Iris forced 21 Chanson V-M turnovers and outrebounded them 43-29 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Denso Iris looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Sakura Akaho (182-96) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Denso Iris players scored in double figures. Denso Iris' coach Hiroshi Kojima felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Naoko Chikahira (180-93) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and the former international swingman Saori Saitoguchisato (178-87) scored 5 points and 8 rebounds. Denso Iris moved-up to third place in Places 1-6, which they share with Fujitsu RW and Toyota A. Chanson V-M lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost.
