Regular Season Round 26: Al Sadd - Al Gharafa 75-96

Date: February 8, 2017
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#2) and Al Sadd (#8). Al Sadd was smashed at home by 21 points 75-96 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Al Gharafa. Al Sadd was better in third quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Gharafa players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The former international forward Khalid-Abdalla Adam (200-93) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. Al Gharafa's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Senegalese center Oumar Seck (208-88) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 21 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward AJ West (206-91, college: Nevada) added 30 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Al Sadd. Al Gharafa (14-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position having just one point less than leader El Jaysh. Al Sadd lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Qatar Sports Club.
