Regular Season Round 26: Al Shamal - Al Ahli 86-89

The biggest surprise of round 26 was guest Al Ahli's (5-9) road victory over 6th ranked Al Shamal (4-10) 89-86 on Wednesday evening. Al Ahli made 34-of-40 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game, while Al Shamal only scored thirteen points from the stripe. Al Ahli forced 20 Al Shamal turnovers. Strangely Al Shamal outrebounded Al Ahli 53-38 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Al Shamal helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Branko Jereminov (186-87) who had a triple-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists. Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic (201-90, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 26 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Elhag-Ali Saleh (191) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds and Australian-South Sudanese forward Deng Deng (203-92, college: Baylor) added 20 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Ahli moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Qatar Club. Al Shamal at the other side dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Al Wakrah. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena El Jaysh.
