Regular Season Round 6: Santiago - Guantanamo 96-84

Bottom-ranked Guantanamo is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their sixth consecutive match to sixth ranked Santiago (3-3) 96-84. It looked good early as Guantanamo took a 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Santiago took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 12 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Guantanamo's 46. Santiago forced 19 Guantanamo turnovers. The former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) scored 55 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Eddy Siria chipped in 9 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international swingman Yoanis Soria (195-86) with 30 points and 5 steals and guard Raudelis Guerra (191-93) scored 22 points and 4 assists. Guantanamo's coach Yuniel Cruz tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Santiago moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Guantanamo at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Santiago will play against league's second-placed Pinar in Rio in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Guantanamo will play at home against Tigres (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
