Regular Season Round 23: Burgos - Gipuzkoa GBC 85-78

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Burgos as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Oviedo CB) loss. Burgos defeated second-ranked Gipuzkoa at home 85-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gipuzkoa. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Gipuzkoa took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Burgos had a 27-21 second period charge getting the lead and Gipuzkoa was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-85. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian center Goran Huskic (210-92, college: Howard Col., TX) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. British swingman Morayo Soluade (196-95) accounted for 16 points and 7 assists for the winning side. Four Burgos players scored in double figures. American power forward Mike Carlson (206-91, college: Truman St., agency: Duran International) came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Ricardo Uriz (188-80) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for Gipuzkoa in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Burgos have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Gipuzkoa. Gipuzkoa will play next round against Caceres Basket trying to get back on the winning streak. Burgos will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Melilla Baloncesto on the road.
