Regular Season Round 18: PeU-Basket - Korikouvot 88-81

There was an upset when higher ranked Korikouvot (13-7) lost to tenth ranked PeU-Basket (7-13) in Pernio 81-88 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-81. PeU-Basket dominated on the defensive end, holding Korikouvot to just 7 points in second quarter. It was a good game for forward Riku Laine (197-97) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds. Point guard Aatu Kivimaki (186-97) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four PeU-Basket players scored in double figures. Swingman Teemu Knihtinen (195-98) replied with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Samuli Lehtonen (175-92) added 21 points in the effort for Korikouvot. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. PeU-Basket moved-up to ninth place in Division. Loser Korikouvot dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. PeU-Basket will face higher ranked Espoo Basket (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Korikouvot will play against HNMKY U23 in Helsinki and hope to win that game.
