Regular Season Round 18: Townsville - Dandenong 83-66

The most important game in the last round took place in Townsville between third ranked Dandenong Rangers (14-9) and fourth ranked Townsville Fire (14-9) on Friday night. Dandenong Rangers were defeated by Townsville Fire on the road 83-66. The game was mostly controlled by Townsville Fire. Dandenong Rangers managed to win fourth quarter 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Townsville Fire dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Dandenong Rangers' 26. The best player for the winners was the former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Kayla Standish (187-89, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds. Four Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. Dandenong Rangers' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Townsville Fire have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Dandenong. Dandenong Rangers lost fourth consecutive game. Townsville Fire is looking forward to face Canberra Capitals (#5) at home in the next round. Dandenong Rangers will play against the league's second-placed Perth Lynx and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
