Regular Season Round 17: AEK Athens - Trikalla 87-82
Date: February 11, 2017
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Aiolos Trikallon (6-11) was defeated on the road by third ranked AEK Athens (14-3) 87-82. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Aiolos Trikallon was ahead by 11 points after three quarters before a 36-20 charge of AEK Athens, which allowed them to win the game. They made 28-of-32 charity shots (87.5 percent) during the game. 30 personal fouls committed by Aiolos Trikallon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized Serbian Dusan Sakota (210-86, agency: BeoBasket) nailed 25 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and Nigerian power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds. AEK Athens' coach Jure Zdovc allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Kelsey Barlow (196-91, college: Ill.-Chicago) came up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Lithuanian Gilvydas Biruta (203-91, college: Rhode Island) added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Aiolos Trikallon in the defeat.
