Regular Season Round 27: Al Wakrah - Al Khor 114-85

Very expected game when 10th ranked Al Khor (2-13) was smashed on the road by sixth ranked Al Wakrah (6-10) 114-85. The game was mostly controlled by Al Wakrah. Al Khor was better in second period 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Wakrah dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Al Khor's 42. Al Wakrah forced 19 Al Khor turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Nigerian forward Olatunbo Ayeni (196-87, college: St.Francis, NY) who scored 60 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. American guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds, 17 assists and 4 steals. Ayeni is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Al Wakrah's coach Ihab Jalal felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Dairese Gary (185-88, college: N.Mexico) who recorded a triple-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 10 assists and Mustafa Lasheen added 13 points respectively. Four Al Khor players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Al Wakrah. They moved-up to fifth place. Al Khor at the other side stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Al Wakrah's next round opponent will be Qatar Sports Club (#7) in Doha. Al Khor will play at home against Al Shamal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
