Regular Season Round 35: Barreteros - Abejas 93-86

Everything went according to plan in Zacatecas where sixth ranked Barreteros (17-19) beat 9th ranked Abejas (10-26) 93-86 on Saturday. Abejas trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 19 after three quarters before a 30-18 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 86-93 at the end of the game. Barreteros made 29-of-36 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Barreteros outrebounded Abejas 43-21 including a 34-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Abejas were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Brandon Provost (190-90, college: UTRGV) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 assists. His fellow American import guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) helped adding 21 points and 9 rebounds. Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) responded with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Tomas Sanchez (190, college: Idaho St.) scored 17 points and 8 assists. Four Barreteros and five Abejas players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Barreteros. Newly promoted Barreteros maintains sixth place with 17-19 record. Loser Abejas keep the ninth position with 26 games lost.
