Regular Season Round 17: Avenir - Arras 79-58

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Chartres. First ranked Avenir faced 4th placed Arras. Host Avenir (15-2) smashed guests from Arras (11-6) 79-58. The game without a history. Avenir led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Arras to just 6 points in first quarter. Avenir forced 21 Arras turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Arras' players. Arras was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Magali Mendy (178-90, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Tiffany Clarke (183-91, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 25 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Avenir's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Aminata Konate (169-90) answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds and forward Fabienne Constant (186-86) added 11 points in the effort for Arras. Avenir maintains first place with 15-2 record, which they share with Roche. Arras at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with COB Calais and Bretagne Basket. Avenir will play against SIG (#7) in llkirch-Graff. in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Arras will play at home against Bretagne Basket (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
