Tenth-ranked Aris Thessal. (3-11) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Panathinaikos (10-4) in Thessaloniki on Sunday. The visitors from Athens managed to secure only three-point victory 69-66. However their fans expected much easier game. Panathinaikos forced 31 Aris Thessal. turnovers. Strangely Aris Thessal. outrebounded Panathinaikos 55-40 including a 40-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Naturalized American guard Niki Avery (168-86, college: E.Kentucky, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. American guard Corin Adams (174-88, college: Morgan St., agency: Two Points) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 10 steals for the winners. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American-Guyanese guard Miriam McKenzie (177-90, college: Loyola, MD) replied with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds and American forward Brittni Montgomery (190-92, college: Cent.Florida) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Aris Thessal.Panathinaikos maintains second position with 10-4 record having four points less than leader Olympiacos. Aris Thessal. lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with 11 games lost. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face Kronos AD (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
