Regular Season Round 18: Azkoitia - Segle XXI 75-60

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Azkoitia (6-11) beat higher ranked Segle XXI (8-9) in Azpeitia 75-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Azkoitia. Segle XXI was better in fourth quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American forward Laura Johnson (182-91, college: Sioux Falls) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import guard Chloe Wells (173-92, college: Duke) contributed with 23 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Guard Silvia Serrat (183-99) replied with 14 points and 9 rebounds and forward Alba Ibanez (183-0) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Segle XXI. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Azkoitia maintains twelfth position in Group A with 6-11 record. Loser Segle XXI keeps the eighth place with nine games lost. Azkoitia will face higher ranked Joventut LC (#5) in Barcelona in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
