Regular Season Round 17: Irakleio - GS Larissas 94-73

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 14th ranked GS Larissas (4-13) was crushed on the road by fifteenth ranked Irakleio (4-12) 94-73 on Sunday. Irakleio dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to GS Larissas' 30. They outrebounded GS Larissas 42-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. Guard Themis Koupidis (198-84) stepped up and scored 24 points for the winners and forward Dimitris Lolas (203-86) chipped in 17 points and 11 rebounds. Four Irakleio players scored in double figures. Coach Vasilis Rallis's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Forward Sotiris Gioulekas (203-79) responded with 25 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Rafail Tsourakis (208, college: Benedictine, KS) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Irakleio moved-up to fourteenth place. GS Larissas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifteenth position with 13 games lost. Irakleio will face league's second-placed Doukas in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. GS Larissas will play at home against Iraklis (#3) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
