Regular Season Round 18: Perth - Melbourne 87-81

Date: February 12, 2017
There was no surprise when 7th ranked Boomers (5-18) were defeated on the road by second ranked Perth Lynx (15-7) 87-81. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Perth Lynx outrebounded Boomers 47-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Power forward Carley Mijovic (196-94, agency: LBM Management) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) supported her with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Perth Lynx's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 16 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists by Canadian forward Kalisha Keane (185-89, college: Michigan St.) did not help to save the game for Boomers. Guard Madeleine Garrick (178-92) added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Perth Lynx and five Boomers players scored in double figures. Perth Lynx have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-7 record having just three points less than leader Sydney. Boomers at the other side keep the seventh place with 18 games lost. Perth Lynx's next round opponent will be Bendigo Spirit (#6) on the road. Boomers will play against Bendigo Spirit and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
