Regular Season Round 22: Catz - HyPo 60-48

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked HyPo (18-3) on the court of third ranked Catz Lappeenranta on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Catz Lappeenranta 60-48. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of HyPo. The game without a history. Catz Lappeenranta led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held HyPo to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Catz Lappeenranta made 7 blocks. American point guard Valencia McFarland (163-91, college: Mississippi) scored 19 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Chandrea Jones (177-87, college: Syracuse, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) responded with 4 points and 14 rebounds and the former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Catz Lappeenranta have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 13-8 record having five points less than leader HyPo. HyPo at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Catz Lappeenranta will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. HyPo will play on the road against ViVe in Vimpeli and is hoping to win this game.
