Regular Season Round 33: Olimpico LB - La Union 70-83

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Olimpico de La Banda (17-15) was defeated at home by eighth ranked La Union (16-17) 83-70 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 54-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Olimpico de La Banda outrebounded La Union 42-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Forward Facundo Pinero (200-88) stepped up and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international swingman Alexis Elsener (196-88) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four La Union players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Justin Williams (206-84, college: Wyoming, agency: DTMones) with 7 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks and Mauro Cosolito (195-88) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. La Union moved-up to fourth place, which they share with GECR Indalo and Libertad S. Loser Olimpico de La Banda keeps the sixth position with 15 games lost. La Union will face Hispano Am. (#9) in Rio Gallegos in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Olimpico de La Banda will play on the road against Obras Basket in Buenos Aires and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
