Regular Season Round 22: Liepaja/Triobet - Ventspils 86-96

LBL top team - Ventspils (19-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat seventh ranked Liepaja/Triobet (10-12) 96-86. It looked good early as Liepaja/Triobet took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ventspils had a 27-15 second period charge getting the lead and Liepaja/Triobet was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 86-96. Ventspils made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Maris Gulbis (200-85, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American swingman Folarin Campbell (189-86, college: George Mason) contributed with 10 points and 7 assists for the winners. American guard Malcolm Griffin (193-91, college: Fresno Pacific, agency: Promotex) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists and guard Arturs Ausejs (192-90) added 31 points in the effort for Liepaja/Triobet. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ventspils have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-2 record. Liepaja/Triobet at the other side dropped to the sixth place with 12 games lost. Ventspils' next round opponent will be Jurmala (#7) on the road where they are favorite. Liepaja/Triobet will play against the league's second-placed Valmiera and hope to win that game.
