Regular Season Round 30: Helsinki Seagulls - Korihait 80-73

Korisliiga top team - Helsinki Seagulls (20-6) added another victory to their record. This time they beat tenth ranked UU-Korihait (4-23) 80-73. It looked good early as UU-Korihait took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Helsinki Seagulls had a 22-12 second period charge getting the lead and UU-Korihait was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-80. Helsinki Seagulls players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. UU-Korihait was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Raymond Cowels-III (193-90, college: Santa Clara) notched 26 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and the other American import center Devonte Upson (206-93, college: SE Louisiana) supported him with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Even 21 points and 4 assists by point guard Mikko Jalonen (186-82) did not help to save the game for UU-Korihait. American power forward Marcus Van (201-87, college: Cent.Michigan) added 7 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Helsinki Seagulls maintains first position with 20-6 record. UU-Korihait lost fifteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 23 lost games. Helsinki Seagulls will play against KTP-Basket (#8) in Kotka in the next round and are hoping to win another game. UU-Korihait will play at home against Kauhajoen Karhu and hopes to get back on the winning track.
