Second Stage Round 13: RTU - Jelgava 75-97

No shocking result in a game in Riga where third ranked Jelgava (14-4) smashed 9th ranked RTU (4-13) 97-75. RTU was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Jelgava made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 RTU turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by RTU's players. 27 personal fouls committed by RTU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Gatis Justovics (184-87) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and swingman Edgars Krumins (194-86) accounted for 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Jelgava had such big advantage that coach felt comfortable to give the chance to play for 10 players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Karlis Helmanis (199-97) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Lauris Berzins (192-97) added 18 points respectively for RTU in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Jelgava have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain third place with 14-4 record having just five point less than leader Turiba. RTU at the other side keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. Jelgava's next round opponent will be Gulbenes Buki (#11) in Riga and are hoping to win another game.
