Regular Season Round 19: Al-Qazeres - Gipuzkoa UPV 66-71

There was a minor upset in Caceres where higher ranked Al-Qazeres (9-10) was defeated by tenth ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (9-10) 71-66. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Al-Qazeres won third quarter 16-4. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Gipuzkoa UPV won last quarter 19-15. They made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for Brazilian center Nadia Colhado (193-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kenyan-Canadian power forward Adut Bulgak (193-92, college: Florida St.) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Julie Forster (185-91, college: Albany) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Ameryst Alston (175-93, college: Ohio St.) added 17 points in the effort for Al-Qazeres. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gipuzkoa UPV. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Al-Qazeres. Gipuzkoa UPV will play against higher ranked Araski (#4) in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al-Qazeres will play on the road against Mann Filter in Zaragoza and hopes to get back on the winning track.
