Regular Season Round 20: Sagunto - Cartagena 81-58
Date: February 18, 2017
There was a surprise result in Gilet where ninth ranked Sagunto (8-10) outscored higher ranked Cartagena (10-8) 81-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sagunto. Cartagena was better in second period 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sagunto dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cartagena's 26. The best player for the winners was guard Luis Torrijo (184-93) who scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. German-Polish power forward Alexander Machowski (205-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Four Sagunto players scored in double figures. American guard Stephon Carter (193-91, college: CSU Bakersfield) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds and forward Javier Santabarbara (197-95) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sagunto moved-up to sixth place in Group E, which they share with Paterna and Benidorm. Loser Cartagena keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
