Regular Season Round 23: Kouvot - PeKa 56-76

The game in Kouvot supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Peli-Karhut (12-10) played at the court of 6th ranked Kouvottaret (10-12). Peli-Karhut did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 76-56. The game was mostly controlled by Peli-Karhut. Kouvottaret was better in second period 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Peli-Karhut forced 24 Kouvottaret turnovers and outrebounded them 43-32 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Amanda Lassiter (186-79, college: Missouri) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Laura Lehtoranta (172-84) contributed with 20 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) for the winners. Five Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. American forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech) answered with 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-93, college: Charleston) added 8 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Kouvottaret. Kouvottaret's coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Peli-Karhut have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 12-10 record. Kouvottaret lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. Peli-Karhut will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kouvottaret will play on the road against Helmi Basket (#10) in Helsinki and hopes to get back on the winning track.
