Regular Season Round 22: Jurmala - Liepaja/Triobet 81-95

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Jurmala (10-14) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Liepaja/Triobet (10-12) 95-81 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Liepaja/Triobet. Jurmala was better in fourth quarter 31-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Liepaja/Triobet looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Jurmala was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Malcolm Griffin (193-91, college: Fresno Pacific, agency: Promotex) scored 29 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Artjoms Butjankovs (205-91) chipped in 30 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Edgars Jeromanovs (186-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists and guard Edmunds Elksnis (187-90) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Jurmala's coach Arnis Vecvagars let to play ten players saving starting five for next games. Liepaja/Triobet moved-up to sixth place. Loser Jurmala dropped to the seventh position with 14 games lost. Liepaja/Triobet will face league's second-placed Valmiera on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Jurmala will play against the league's leader Ventspils (#1) and hope to win that game.
