Very important is a home loss of third ranked Townsville Fire (14-10) against fifth ranked Canberra Capitals (13-11) on Saturday night. Host Townsville Fire was defeated by Canberra Capitals in a tough game in Townsville 83-90. Townsville Fire was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 27-17 charge of Canberra Capitals, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a very good performance for American forward Mikaela Ruef (190-90, college: Stanford) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) contributed with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Canberra Capitals' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Kayla Standish (187-89, college: Gonzaga) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Townsville Fire. Four Canberra Capitals and five Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. Canberra Capitals have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 13-11 record, which they share with Bendigo. Defending champion Townsville Fire dropped to the fourth position with ten games lost.
