Very important is a road loss of third ranked Yamagata (20-18) against fifth ranked Tokyo Excel. (14-23) on Sunday night. Visiting Yamagata was defeated by Tokyo Excel. in a tough game in Tokyo 70-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Yamagata. The hosts were ahead by 5 points but lost the second period ending it with a 3-point deficit before their 20-13 run, which allowed them to win the game. The winners were led by guard Tatsuya Nishiyama (171-88) who scored that evening 15 points and 9 assists and swingman Hiroaki Tobita (187-90) supported him with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Tokyo Excel. players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds by American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) did not help to save the game for Yamagata. Point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) added 14 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tokyo Excel. maintains fifth position with 14-23 record. Yamagata at the other side keeps the third place with 18 games lost. Tokyo Excel. will play against league's leader Gunma on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Yamagata will play against Kagoshima in Renova and hopes to get back on the winning track.
