Regular Season Round 22: Melsele - Ekeren 78-77

Fourteenth-ranked Ekeren (5-15) gave a tough game to ninth ranked Melsele (9-12) on Sunday. Melsele managed to secure only one-point victory 78-77. However their fans expected much easier game. Melsele made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Melsele outrebounded Ekeren 29-13 including a 20-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. Dutch power forward Patrick Hilliman (206-82, college: High Point) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized DR Congolese forward Armand Kabeya (198-88, agency: Promotex) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Dave Van-den-Brande (189-82) responded with 20 points and forward Zed Peeters (-96) scored 18 points. Five Ekeren players scored in double figures. Melsele moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Giants B and Royal Brussels. Newly promoted Ekeren stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Melsele will face higher ranked Houthalen (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ekeren will play against Giants B (#7) and hope to win that game.
