Regular Season Round 28: Al Wakrah - Qatar Club 110-82

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Qatar Sports Club (5-12) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Al Wakrah (7-10) 110-82. The game was mostly controlled by Al Wakrah. Qatar Sports Club was better in third quarter 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Wakrah dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Qatar Sports Club's 44 and made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Al Wakrah forced 25 Qatar Sports Club turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Qatar Sports Club's players. Quite impressive performance for American guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 16 assists and 6 steals. American-Nigerian forward Olatunbo Ayeni (196-87, college: St.Francis, NY) contributed with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. Ayeni is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Wakrah players scored in double figures. American forward Quinton Doggett (206-90, college: Southern) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds and international Abdulrahman Jamal added 25 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) in the effort for Qatar Sports Club. Al Wakrah have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 7-10 record. Qatar Sports Club lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 12 games lost. Al Wakrah's next round opponent will be higher ranked Al Rayyan (#4) in Doha and it may be quite challenging game. Qatar Sports Club's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Shamal.
