Regular Season Round 9: Villa Clara - Guantanamo 97-80

LSB top team - Villa Clara (9-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat eighth ranked Guantanamo (0-8) in Santa Clara 97-80. Osvaldo Perez stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and international center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) chipped in 19 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was swingman Elvis Pons (194-83) with 21 points and 7 steals and the former international swingman Yoanis Soria (195-86) scored 16 points and 4 steals. Five Villa Clara and four Guantanamo players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Villa Clara have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Guantanamo at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Villa Clara will play against Ciego (#7) in Avila in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Guantanamo will play at home against Capitalinos and hopes to get finally their first victory.
