Regular Season Round 40: Hokkaido L. - Sendai 89ers 84-90

There was a small surprise in Saporro where sixth ranked Sendai 89ers (11-28) beat one of their biggest challengers Hokkaido L. (12-27) 90-84 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hokkaido L. won third quarter 21-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sendai 89ers won last quarter 33-28. They made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Hokkaido L. was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 8 rebounds and South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) who added 15 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Canadian center Jordan Bachynski (218-89, college: Arizona St.) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds and American center Daniel Miller (211-91, college: Georgia Tech) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sendai 89ers moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Akita NH. Loser Hokkaido L. keeps the fourth position with 27 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round. Hokkaido L. will play at home against Yokohama BC (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
