Regular Season Round 40: Hitachi SR - Niigata Albirex 94-84

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Niigata Albirex (19-20) against fourth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (18-19) on Wednesday night. Visiting Niigata Albirex was defeated by Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo 94-84. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 52-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Niigata Albirex 46-28 including 17 on the offensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. Hitachi Sunrockers looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Niigata Albirex's players. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and American power forward RT Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) who added 24 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas) responded with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains fourth position with 18-19 record. Loser Niigata Albirex keeps the third place with 20 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face Kyoto Hannar. (#4) at home in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play against Osaka Evessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
