Regular Season Round 11: Capitalinos - Villa Clara 75-76

Third-ranked Capitalinos (5-5) made lots of trouble for leader Villa Clara (11-0) in La Habana on Wednesday. The visitors from Santa Clara managed to secure only one-point victory 76-75. However their fans expected easier game. Capitalinos were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Villa Clara forced 20 Capitalinos turnovers. Strangely Capitalinos outrebounded Villa Clara 38-16 including a 21-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 steals. Guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) chipped in 14 points, 5 assists and 7 steals. Power forward Arlen Alorda (198-86) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and the former international power forward Jasul Rivero (203-93) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Villa Clara have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-0 record. Capitalinos at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Villa Clara are looking forward to face league's second-placed Pinar in Rio in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Capitalinos will play on the road against Santiago and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
