Regular Season Round 24: Helmi Basket - Kouvot 71-89

Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Helmi Basket (4-19) lost to sixth ranked Kouvottaret (11-12) in Helsinki 71-89 on Friday. The game without a history. Kouvottaret led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a good game for American forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds. The other American import forward Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-93, college: Charleston) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Kouvottaret players scored in double figures. Kouvottaret's coach Mika Hartonen used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International guard Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (173-99) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and international center Helmi Tulonen (189-98) added 15 points in the effort for Helmi Basket. Newly promoted Kouvottaret maintains sixth position with 11-12 record. Helmi Basket lost fourth consecutive game. Helmi Basket at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom place with 19 games lost. Kouvottaret will face higher ranked Catz Lappeenranta (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Helmi Basket will play against Peli-Karhut (#4) in Kotka and hope to win that game.
