Regular Season Round 19: Njardvik - KR 80-81

Date: February 24, 2017
Seventh-ranked Njardvik (9-10) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked KR (15-4) on Friday. The visitors from Reykjavik managed to secure only one-point victory 81-80. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 27-24 charge, which allowed them to win the game. KR made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American forward PJ Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87) contributed with a triple-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Alawoya is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Myron Dempsey (203-91, college: Paul Quinn, agency: Mansfield and Associates) answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds and the former international Logi Gunnarsson (190-81) added 20 points and 6 assists in the effort for Njardvik. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first place with 15-4 record. Njardvik at the other side keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with IR and Thor AK. KR are looking forward to face Keflavik (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Njardvik will play against Thor AK in Akureyri and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
