Important game to mention about took place in Avila. Sixth ranked Ciego (3-8) saved a 1-point victory at home edging bottom-ranked Guantanamo (0-11) 69-68 on Friday evening. Guantanamo was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 20-11 third quarter run of Ciego. Strangely Guantanamo outrebounded Ciego 42-26 including a 15-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Dainier Martinez (184-96) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 4 assists and the former international William Granda (189-85, agency: Pro Sports) who added 16 points and 8 steals during the contest. Ciego's coach Jesus Martus allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was swingman Elvis Pons (194-83) with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Yoanis Soria (195-86) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Santiago. Guantanamo at the other side still closes the standings with 11 games lost. They share the position with Camaguey. Ciego will play against league's second-placed Pinar in Rio in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Guantanamo will play on the road against Santiago (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
