Regular Season Round 41: Ryukyu GK - Chiba Jets 71-89

There was no surprise in Okinawa where 5th ranked Ryukyu GK (17-23) was defeated by third ranked Chiba Jets (27-13) 89-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Chiba Jets. Ryukyu GK was better in fourth quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chiba Jets dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Ryukyu GK's 32. They outrebounded Ryukyu GK 44-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was center Hilton Armstrong (210-84, college: Connecticut) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Stone (203-91, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) produced 11 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Ryukyu GK's coach Tsutomu Isa rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Chiba Jets have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain third place with 27-13 record having five points less than leader Tochigi Brex. Loser Ryukyu GK keeps the fifth position with 23 games lost. Chiba Jets will have a break next round. Ryukyu GK will play again at home against Chiba Jets (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
