Regular Season Round 23: Houthalen - Ieper 99-76

Very predictable result when fifth ranked Houthalen (14-9) outscored at home 11th ranked Ieper (8-15) 99-76 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 99-76. Houthalen dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Ieper's 38. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Ieper's players. The best player for the winners was point guard Chiel Koonings (180-90) who scored 18 points and 6 assists. Guard Darnell Snyers (181-98) chipped in 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Houthalen players scored in double figures. Houthalen's coach Ronnie McCollum felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Alexander Schepens (191-93) produced 22 points and 7 rebounds and center Gilles Dierickx (213-92, college: Seattle Pacific) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Houthalen have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 14-9 record. Ieper lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Houthalen will face league's second-placed Oxaco in Boechout in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
