There was no surprise in Madrid where 10th ranked Batalyaws (6-14) was defeated by fifth ranked Distrito Olimpico (12-8) 67-56 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Distrito Olimpico. Batalyaws was better in third quarter 12-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Batalyaws 42-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was center Daira Varas (193-89) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Swingman Maria Bolonio (180-85) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Distrito Olimpico's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brazilian-Portuguese forward Larisse Lima (185-88) produced 17 points and forward Pamela Moral (175-82) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Distrito Olimpico maintains fifth position in Group B with 12-8 record. Batalyaws lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with 14 games lost. Distrito Olimpico will face higher ranked Leganes (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Batalyaws will play against IF Air Europa (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
