There was a minor upset when 13th ranked Estudiantes B (5-16) lost to fifteenth ranked Rivas (4-17) in Madrid 67-74 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 41-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Rivas forced 21 Estudiantes B turnovers. Estudiantes B was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Javier Carpio (185-89) who led his team to a victory with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Power forward Angel Gomez (197-87) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Rivas players scored in double figures. Guard Diego Gonzalez (188-96) answered with 17 points and center Bernat Vanaclocha (210-98) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Estudiantes B. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Rivas moved-up to fourteenth place in Group B. Loser Estudiantes B keeps the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Rivas will face higher ranked Lanzarote (#12) in Arrecife in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
