Regular Season Round 13: Ciego de Avila - Pinar del Rio 66-48

The game between second ranked Pinar (10-3) and fifth ranked Ciego (4-8) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Pinar was defeated by Ciego in Avila 66-48. The game without a history. Ciego led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. The former international William Granda (189-85, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up and scored 23 points and 6 steals for the winners and guard Dainier Martinez (184-96) chipped in 17 points and 9 steals. At the losing side the former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) responded with 20 points and Diagmani Vazquez (192-87) scored 3 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ciego have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fifth place with 4-8 record, which they share with Santiago. Pinar at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Ciego is looking forward to face higher ranked Capitalinos (#3) in La Habana in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pinar will play at home against Santiago and is hoping to win this game.
