Rather predictable result when twelfth ranked Carugate (5-15) won against on the road 14th ranked Alghero (1-19) 76-71 on Saturday. Alghero was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 21-12 charge of Carugate, which allowed them to win the game. They made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Carugate outrebounded Alghero 41-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. The former international forward Emily Correal (190-90, college: William & Mary, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds. Power forward Marta Scarsi (182-95) contributed with 8 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Four Carugate players scored in double figures. Bulgarian point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC) replied with 18 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Alghero. Carugate moved-up to eleventh place in A2. Newly promoted Alghero keeps the fourteenth position with 19 games lost. Carugate will face Cagliari CUS (#13) at home in the next round.
